FRANKLIN—Former Franklin resident William Goodwin Jr. has been named a senior adviser to the University of Virginia Board of Visitors.

Gov. Bob McDonnell appointed Goodwin to the new position, which McDonnell established.

Goodwin, who lives in Richmond, is a former member of the University of Virginia Board of Visitors.

He is chairman of the board of CCA Industries, a holding company whose assets include several hospitality businesses including The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina and The Hermitage Hotel in Nashville — all five-star properties. Others include Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head, S.C., and Keswick Hall in Keswick, Va. CCA also owns several other businesses, real estate holdings and investments.

Goodwin holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in business from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.
