FRANKLIN—A Franklin-area resident will compete for a national title and $10,000 after being crowned Dominion State Teen 2012 Princess America for Virginia.

Kayla White, 18, was among 22 who competed for the state crown in March.

“I was very excited,” said White, a sophomore pre-law student at the University of Virginia and 2011 Southampton High School honors graduate.

She will be in Orlando from Monday, July 16, through Sunday, July 22, for the pageant.

The daughter of Donna and M.J. White, and Jim White, all of Franklin, will be judged for an interview, fitness competition, evening gown, personal expression and on-stage questionnaire.

In the meantime she will raise money for Give Kids the World, a charity that sends children with terminal illnesses to Disney World for a week.

“More people should be involved in pageants,” Kayla White said. “It is a good way to take a platform and promote it.”
