COURTLAND—Samuel Williams, 92, husband of the late Shirley T. Williams, passed away June 19, 2012.

Son of the late Sam and Edith Tillery Williams of Courtland, Mr. Williams was retired from construction work with BEAR Contractors as well as janitorial work at Southampton High School’s Vo-Tech Center.

He was a member of Bryant Baptist Church, Capron, Va., and later joined New St. Mount Holiness Church in Franklin, Va.

He was predeceased by six brothers, three sisters and one grandson.

Left to cherish his memory are five daughters and two sons-in-law, Cheryl Roberts, Dianne Williams, Karen Lashley (Melvin) and Essense Williams of Courtland, Va., and Latorial Faison (Carl) of Ft. Lee, Va./South Korea; and two sons, Ronald Williams Sr. of Courtland and John Sykes of Franklin; one brother, Wadger Williams of Franklin; and five other sons raised in the home, Barrett Porter, James Porter, Brian Banks, Tavares Artis and Martin Artis.

He also leaves seven grandchildren, Ronald Williams Jr. of Courtland, Rondever Williams of North Carolina, Romaine Gallop and Jessica Roberts of Connecticut, Melvon Lashley of Danville, Va., Lisa Pierce of Norfolk, and Heather Cobb of Franklin; eight great-grandchildren, Carl, Kendall, and Kaleb Faison, Destiny Williams, Moriah and Seneca Darden, Durae Hudson and Sterling Roberts.

Mr. Williams also leaves 10 sisters-in-law and seven brothers-in-law to cherish his memory, William Clifton and Margaret Turner of Richmond, Roy and Janice Turner of Newport News, David Wadell and Freida Turner of Windsor, Conn., Cathalee Johnson of Chesterfield, Samuel and Rebbie Warren of Portsmouth, Walter and Ida McKenny of West Hartford, Conn., Bessie Murphy of Santa Barbara, Calif., John and Dorothy Williams of Bridgeport, Conn., Bernard and Jean Butler of Bloomfield, Conn., Evonia Manson of New Britain, Conn., and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Shiloh Baptist Church with Bishop Charlie Collins officiating. Burial will follow at the Bryant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements and Saturday viewing will be handled by Engram Funeral Home in Franklin.
