Mrs. Jessie T. Artis of Bruce Street, Franklin, Va., departed this life on June 21, 2012, while a patient in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.

She was born on May 15, 1933, in Southampton County, Va.

Jessie was a member of New Mount Zion Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel C. Turner; her husband, James R. Artis Sr.; and two sons, Stanley and Gregory.

She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis A. Artis, Pamela W. Artis of Franklin, Va.; sons, James Artis Jr., Felix Artis and Fleming Conrad Artis, all of Franklin, Va.; Kimberly Britt Doles, who regarded Mrs. Artis as her grandmother; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

A homegoing service will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at 3 p.m. at New Mount Zion Baptist Church, 415 Stonewall Street, Franklin, Va., with the pastor, Bishop D. Stefán Adams Sr. delivering the eulogy.

The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.

A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 224 South Main Street, Franklin, Va.
