WALTERS—Theresa Ann Williams, 76, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012, following a brief bout with cancer.

Ann was born in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., on October 9, 1935, and moved with her parents to Franklin, Va., at an early age where she attended the Franklin Schools and graduated from Franklin High in 1953.

After graduation, Ann married the late Robert L. Williams and became an Air Force wife following her husband to various assignments within the United States. Upon his retirement, they moved back to Franklin where they met and made many new friends.

After her husband’s death, Ann became a dispatcher for the Franklin Police Department and really enjoyed her work dealing with situations and emergencies, and assisting the police. During her working career, she joined a longtime friend, Lonnie L. Carr Jr. and they committed to being true companions for many years.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis C. Rook Sr. and Edna Earl Rook; husband, Robert L. Williams; her life partner, Lonnie L. Carr Jr.; daughter, Terri Roberts; and son, Steve Williams.

She is survived by her brothers, Curtis C. Rook Jr. and wife, JoAnn, of Yorktown, and Bernard E. Rook and wife, Brenda, of Courtland; stepson, Mark W. Carr and wife, Shawn of Walters; grandsons, Chris Williams, Phillip Roberts, Jarrod Williams, Zachary Williams and Joshua Williams; step-grandsons, Trevis and Richie Carr; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 21, 2012, from 11 a.m. to noon at Mount Carmel Christian Church. A memorial service officiated by Rev. Tommy Speight will follow the visitation at noon at the church.

A private interment will follow the service at Southampton Memorial Park.
