Residents participate in Special Olympics

RICHMOND—The Franklin High School Special Olympians participated in the Special Olympics of Virginia Summer Games at the University of Richmond over the weekend.

Placing in the Special Olympics of Virginia Summer Games in Richmond were Tanashia Brown, second in the tennis ball throw and third in the 50-meter dash; Oceanna Chesson, second in the tennis ball throw and first in the 50-meter dash; and Travis O’Neil. third in the softball throw and 100-meter dash.

Also placing were McCalvin Saunders, second in the tennis ball throw and a participant ribbon in the 50-meter dash; Infinite Person, participant ribbons in the tennis ball throw and 25-meter wheelchair race; and Quamaine Boone, first in the softball throw and second in the 100-meter dash.

Mona Sumblin is the coach for Franklin Special Olympics team.

“The athletes were very successful, winning medals or ribbons of participation in each of their events per their category,” Sumblin said.
