COURTLAND—A 23-year member of the Southampton County School Board was not reappointed on Tuesday.

The Selection Commission unanimously chose Donna Rountree, 49, over incumbent Becky Blackburn, 62, for the four-year term representing the Drewryville District.

Selection Commission members Wayne Cosby and Emerson Kitchen chose Rountree because of the overwhelming support she received from within as well as outside the district.

Jim Pope was appointed to the Capron District seat. He replaces Russell Schools, who retired after 41 years on the board.
