Lillian Boykins Travis

WAKEFIELD—Lillian Boykin Travis, 94, of Wakefield passed away at her home on June 9, 2012.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Charles C. Travis; a son, Stanley B. Travis and wife, Gloria, of Wakefield; and a daughter, Carol Travis Ranelli of Richmond; four grandchildren, Sandra Griffin and Stephen Travis of Virginia Beach, Scott Travis of Wakefield and Lisa Alexander of New York City; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Galtress Vaughan; a stepbrother, George Galtress; a stepsister, Dorothy Denson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lillian was an avid gardener, seamstress, world traveler, excellent cook, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was also beloved by many who called her “Aunt Lillian.”

She was predeceased by her parents, James Thomas and Fanny Gay Boykin of Ivor; and a brother, Norman M. Boykin.

Lillian and Charles left Wakefield in 1936 and lived in the Northern Virginia area for 40 years before moving back to Wakefield after retirement. While living in Annandale, Lillian was very active in The Circles of the Annandale United Methodist Women, focusing her attention on the older ladies in the group.

She has been a lifelong member of Burton’s Grove Christian Church of Wakefield.

The family will receive friends at the Wakefield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday June 12, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Wakefield UMC at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Henson officiating. Interment will be in Wakefield Cemetery following the service.
