FRANKLIN—Susan Allen didn’t hesitate to tell voters why they should re-elect her husband, George, to the U.S. Senate.

“He’s the best man for the job,” she said during a Tuesday visit to Franklin hosted by local Republicans. “He’s had terrific experience, and we have a very short time to make changes in the United States.”

Earlier yesterday she was in Smithfield. Tomorrow it’s Loudoun County, Arlington and Richmond. Next week, Prince Edward and Halifax counties. Susan Allen said she’s been traveling for a year for the Tuesday, June 12, primary.

Allen is up against Del. Robert Marshall, R-Prince William; Jamie Radtke; and Bishop E.W. Jackson of Chesapeake. If nominated, he will likely face former Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine for the seat held by retiring U.S. Sen. James Webb, a Democrat.

A former Virginia governor, George Allen served in the Senate from 2001 to 2007.

Susan Allen said her husband has a “laser focus” on three issues:

n Repealing ObamaCare, which Allen is said something she hears about “every single day.”

n Using our energy resources, whether it’s drilling offshore or coal.

n Stimulating the economy for jobs.

“I’m a big believer in George,” she said to supporters at Fred’s restaurant. “Good things are going to happen.”

Allen and her husband, George, have been married for 26 years and are parents to Tyler, Forrest and Brooke.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Susan Allen majored in marketing and psychology.

The local Republic committee is asking for volunteers at the polls to pass out literature and make calls from 6 to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
