Mills Burwell ‘Chubby’ Barrett Jr.

ZUNI—Mills Burwell “Chubby” Barrett Jr. passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Born in Southampton County, he was a son of the late Mills B. and Josie Faison Barrett.

Mills was a retired farmer and a lifelong member of Black Creek Baptist Church, where he attended the Men’s Bible Class.

He was predeceased by a sister, Grace B. Bristow; a brother, Melvin Barrett; and a nephew, Donald Barrett Bristow.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Doris B. Drewry of Zuni; five nieces, Withie Billups of Black Creek, Delores Parker of Sedley, Teresa D. Gresham of Franklin, Deborah D. Matthews of Murfreesboro, N.C., and Earlene D. Evans of Yorktown; one nephew, Emerson Bristow of Hampton; and many great nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Black Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Kitts, Dr. Roger Crump and Rev. Wint Hale Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
