ISLE OF WIGHT—Windsor Elementary School Principal Dr. Stenette Byrd has been named principal for Smithfield High School for next year.

Byrd will replace Rebecca Mercer, who has been named coordinator of leadership development and recruiting for Isle of Wight County School District.

Principal at Windsor since 2005, Byrd joined the school district as the assistant principal of Carrollton Elementary School in 2003. He also served as principal for Windsor Middle School and earned the WHRO 2012 Elementary School Technology Administrator of the Year Award.

Byrd earned his master’s degree from Old Dominion University and his doctorate from The College of William & Mary.
