Sumblin named district Coach of Year

CHARLES CITY—Franklin Coach Dennis Sumblin was named the boys’ Coach of the Year for the Tri-Rivers District after the Broncos placed third in the district championship track meet at Charles City on Tuesday.

Franklin’s 4X100 relay team of Alson Cromwell, Marcus Stephens, Reshard Sumblin and Latrell Lane ran a time of 44.38, which qualified the team for the state meet on June 1 at Radford University.

Stephens also finished first in the 100-meter dash with a state qualifying time of 11.18.

The following qualified for the Region A meet on Thursday, May 24, at West Point High School.

100-Meter Dash—Latrell Lane fourth, 11.53; Sumblin fifth, 11.58

400-Meter Run—Ricks fourth, 58.83; Clinton Smith fifth, 59.81

800-Meter Run—Shane Walker sixth, 2:51.10
