FRANKLIN—Ada Belle Newsome Avent, 87, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

A funeral was held Monday at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt. Burial was in Capron Cemetery.

Mrs. Avent spent most of her life in Southampton County.

Among survivors are her husband of 71 years, Arthur Avent Sr.; daughters, Dot Griffith and Diane Seward; son, Art Avent Jr.; brother, Raymond Newsome; and sisters, Edith Roughton and Bessie Cooper.
