To the Editor:

As friends and admirers of Patsy Joyner for more than 30 years, we deeply regret not being able to attend the retirement reception held in her honor at Paul D. Camp Community College the evening of April 27.

We were delighted, however, to learn that at the reception it was announced by PDCCC President Paul Wm. Conco that the conference room at the Franklin campus has been named the “Dr. Patsy R. Joyner Board Room” in her honor.

We are grateful to the local college board and the foundation board for taking this joint action because the conference room and its purpose of bringing people together so perfectly represents Patsy’s many years of loyal, untiring dedication to the college and to the larger community PDCCC serves.

Patsy’s special gift has always been her ability to reach out to others and to engage different points of view in considering concerns of common cause that may benefit the community.

Having been a vital member of PDCCC for 31 years, she has left Paul D. Camp a better place, and we are confident she will remain a passionate advocate of education for all and the community college she loves so deeply.

We applaud, therefore, the two boards for joining together to honor Patsy’s legacy in such an appropriate manner, and we join with all of Patsy’s other friends and admirers in expressing our heartfelt thanks for everything she has done for all of us.
