COURTLAND—Administrative action was taken against a Riverdale Elementary School student after a pocketknife was found in a book bag on May 2, said Dr. Wayne K. Smith.

Smith, who is executive director of administration and personnel for Southampton County Public Schools, would not give the youth’s grade level, details on the disciplinary action, or say if the knife was intentionally brought to school.

“I cannot give out any of the specifics involved with the issue,” he said.

Smith also would not indicate whether or not the book bag belonged to the student, but noted that an administrator found the knife. It was turned over to the Sheriff’s Office.

No one was hurt.
