Congratulations to Franklin High School senior Roy Boyd and Windsor High School senior Maurica Bynum.

Both were recently named Gates Millennium Scholars, which means as long as they are in college, their tuition will be paid. Of course, they must maintain good grades, which we doubt will be a problem for either one.

Boyd carries a 3.87 grade-point average and Bynum a 4.017. He plans to study psychology at James Madison University and she plans to major in accounting at Virginia Wesleyan University.

The two were among 1,000 to receive the scholarships from the 24,000 who applied. The program is administered by the National Negro College Fund and was initially funded by a $1 billion grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

This is also the third year in a row for a Franklin student to receive the scholarship and the second consecutive year for a Windsor student. So our schools and parents must be doing something right.

Best of luck to both Gates Scholars.
