Hurdle, Sumblin, Lane win track events for Franklin

SURRY—Three Franklin High School athletes won their events during Tuesday’s Tri-Rivers District track meet in Surry.

Janesha Hurdle and Reshard Sumblin won the shot put for the Broncos, and Latrell Lane took first in the 100-meter dash.

In non-scoring events, eighth-grader Jayla Cross won the 100- and 200-meters dashes, 100-meter hurdles, and in the long and triple jumps. Eighth-grader Javonte Baker won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and long jump.

Also for the varsity girls, Carlicea Mitchell placed second in the shot put and sixth in the discus.

For the varsity boys, Lane placed third in the 200-meter dash.

Emmanuel Ricks, Clinton Smith and Javonte Blacknall took second, third and fourth in the 400-meter run, respectively. Blacknall and Smith finished fifth and sixth in the long jump.

Travis Brown placed fifth in the shot put.

The 4 X 100-meter relay team of Marcus Stephens, Alson Cromwell, Blacknall and Lane finished second and the 4 X 400-meter relay team of Shane Walker, Quentin Lowe, Smith and Ricks took third.

Also from the eighth-grade girls, Josie Rankin finished first in the 400-meter run, second in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump, and third in the 300-meter hurdles. Rosemary Idisi took second in the 300-meter hurdles, and third in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump.

Elijah Melton won the 400-meter dash and took second in the long jump.
