Maggie Joyner Pope

CAPRON—Maggie Joyner Pope, 98, widow of David Littleton Pope, passed away April 30, 2012, at Nansemond Point in Suffolk with Vicki and Kathy at her bedside.

Mrs. Pope, a resident of Nansemond Point for the past 13 years where she had thrived with her extended family at the nursing home, was one of four children of the late Willie Christian and Ida Johnson Joyner and was predeceased by two sons, Junius “Kingfish” Pope and A.L. Pope.

She was the oldest living member of Capron Baptist Church and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and aunt.

Cherishing her memory are her daughter, Vicki Cahoon, and her husband, Chris of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012, at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Donald Ray Jones of Great Fork Baptist Church officiating.
