Franklin man gets four years in prison for shooting

COURTLAND—A Franklin man will serve four years in prison for shooting a man in the leg on May 29 in Franklin.

Brandon Lee Leonard, 20, of 105 Center St. was sentenced Tuesday in Southampton County Circuit Court for shooting the unidentified 39-year-old, who was treated and released from Southampton Memorial Hospital. Franklin police responded to a call shortly after 4 a.m. for shots fired in the 300 block of Bruce Street. Upon officers’ arrival, there were men, women and children in the parking lot behaving in a disorderly manner.

A block away, an officer saw two people arguing and upon confronting them, found that one had been shot in the leg. The victim was allegedly drunk and refused to cooperate with police. Officers recovered several small-caliber cartridge casings.

Leonard pleaded guilty to malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting in public.
