COURTLAND–Jean Carter Worrell, 86, widow of David Henry Worrell, Sr. went to be with the Lord on April 29, 2012.
Mrs. Worrell was born in Hertford, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Lloyd Joseph and Fannie Martin Carter. She was predeceased by a son, Larry Martin Worrell, four sisters, Evelyn Modlin, Emily Lundgren, Barbara Harrell and Marjorie Burgess and two brothers, Lloyd J. Carter, Jr. and Homer Carter.
Mrs. Worrell retired from nursing after 25 years from Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was an active member of Courtland Baptist Church, helped organize the local AARP in Franklin and was an active member and volunteer at the James L. Camp, Jr. YMCA, especially with the arthritis class, Twinges and Hinges.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Brenda W. Rook (Bernard) of Courtland and Linda W. Edwards (Wayne) of Smithfield, one son, David H. Worrell, Jr. of Richmond, one sister, Juliette Moore of Richmond, one brother, Lawrence O. Carter of Stony Creek, seven grandchildren, Bernard Rook, Jr., David Rook (Michelle), Jason Edwards (Jessica), Jennifer Wauer (Dustin), Carter Dandridge (Austin), Mimi Worrell and Alice Worrell, eight great grandchildren, Hunter and Brendan Rook, Bryce Edwards and Eben, Moriah, Magen, Abram and Noah Wauer and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Courtland Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Speight officiating. Burial will follow at Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The family will receive friends today, Monday, April 30, 2012 at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin from 7 to 8:30 PM. Memorial donations may be made to Courtland Baptist Church. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
