Elections set for Tuesday

FRANKLIN—Seats for mayors and council members in Franklin and Southampton County towns will be on the Tuesday, May 1, election ballot.

In the city, Mayor Jim Councill is seeking a ninth two-year term. Vice Mayor Raystine Johnson and Ward 3 Councilman Greg McLemore are challengers.

Earl Blythe is challenging Barry Cheatham for his Ward 1 seat on the City Council, while Linwood Johnson and Mona Murphy are competing for the Ward 4 seat being vacated by Raystine Johnson.

In Newsoms, one-term Councilman Bryan Flythe is challenging Mayor Harvey Porter, who is vying for a sixth term.

Larry Smith and Councilwoman Sandy Vick want to be Ivor’s next mayor.

Polls will be open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Ward 6: St. Jude’s Catholic Church at 1014 Clay St.
