“Just As I Am With-Out One Plea, But That Thy Blood Was Shed For Me, And That Thou Bidd’st Me Come To Thee, O Lamb Of God, I Come! I Come!…”

SUFFOLK—Edna Tellesea “Morning Star” Butler Wilson, 103 Foxwood Circle, Suffolk, Va., departed this life and walked on to be with the Creator peacefully at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va., on April 9, 2012 at 3:05 a.m.

She was born the fourth child of the late Ulyeses and Primmie Langston Butler on August 7, 1919, in Nansemond County, Va., both of whom preceded her in death.

She was married to the late Charles H. Wilson.

Both Charles and Edna lived in Atlanta, Ga., for some 46 years before returning to Suffolk, Va., in the mid 1990s.

A staunch supporter of the American Red Cross, she volunteered her time faithfully during World War II and during the Korean War.

She was a member of First Baptist Church , Mahan Street, Suffolk, Va., where she regularly attended until her later years. She was also a member of the “State Recognized” Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Indian Tribe of Southampton County, Va., where she served at the “Hawk Clan” Mother. Tribal Members referred to her as “Morning Star” ( Sun-te-tung Dee-shu).

Leaving to cherish her memory are one sister, Margaret Rooks, Portsmouth, Va.; one nephew, Joe (Jan) Rooks of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; one brother-in-law, George Richards, Suffolk, Va.; and a host of friends culminated over her blessed 92 years of life.

Special thanks for their friendship to Perlie Mae Holland, George Richards, Margaret Jacobs, Thomas and Janet Hudson, Thomas and Helen Collier, Ozzie Hoffler, Gealdine Carbin, Fay Perry, Sandy Jackson, Captain Felicia R. Brown, U.S. Army Nurse Corps, and a host of others too numerous to mentioned.

Special kudos to her “In-Home Caretakers” Sherian Cabbler and Shirley Morgan for their support during her last months of illnesses and to her Tribal Chief, friend and provider, LTC (Ret.) Walt “Red Hawk” Brown. We say well done and thank you for your service and support.

There are many things we shall remember of our love one: her laughter, her kindness, patience, understanding and her love and generosity for family and friends. Now that her walk in this sacred circle of life here on earth has come to a “pause” we know that she made a difference in her own walk for us that are left behind.

The Home Going Ceremony will take place Friday, April 13, 2012, 1 p.m., at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens & Chapel Mausoleum, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk, Va. Peebles Funeral Home, Suffolk, Va., is officiating.
