Siblings to speak at graduation

FRANKLIN—Wakefield’s Hannah Barrett, 18, and her brother, Josiah, 20, have been chosen to speak during the 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, graduation at Paul D. Camp Community College.

The siblings are graduating with their father, Ray, who is receiving his second degree from PDCCC.

Graduating high school through the Home Educators Association of Virginia, the Barrett siblings have since been inducted in the Omega Zeta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society and serve as Presidential Student Ambassadors at PDCCC. They will both graduate with associate’s degrees in general studies.

Hannah Barrett will return to PDCCC to obtain a second associate’s degree in education before continuing at a four-year college.

Josiah Barrett represented PDCCC at the Virginia General Assembly in February. He will attend Montreat College in North Carolina this fall to study for a bachelor’s degree in outdoor education. He composes and performs original songs, playing the guitar, bass, banjo and piano, among other instruments. He helped start a band at his home church.

The siblings; mother, Jill, earned an associate’s degree from PDCCC in 2006 and is taking medical coding classes.
