SA baseball picks up 6-5 win

COURTLAND – The Southampton Academy baseball team won a hard-fought game Tuesday against Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot 6-5.

Raider pitcher Tonee Hill picked up his fourth win of the year, going six and two-thirds innings and striking out eight.

The Knights scored in the first inning from a base hit from the lead-off hitter. SA responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning from a lead-off single by Matt Nixon, who later scored on a single by Hill. Hill later scored in the same inning on a hit by Carson Camp.

The Raiders scored again in the third inning when Camp and Wesley Barnes were both driven in by a two-out double by Sean Raulston.

The Knights responded in the top of the fourth with one run. In the bottom of that inning, SA scored when Camp drove in Hill, who had reached base on a fielder’s choice.

The Knights scored another run in the fifth inning.

The Raiders took a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. Nixon hit a double to lead off and later scored on a groundout by Barnes. The Knights fought back in the seventh by scoring two runs.

Camp went three-for-three for the Raiders with two RBIs. Raulston went two-for-three with two RBIs and Nixon went three-for-four and scored two runs in the win.

The Raiders improved to 6-2 on the year and will take on Brunswick Academy at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5 in Lawrenceville.
