Benjamin ‘Ben’ Edward Marks

CAPRON—Benjamin “Ben” Edward Marks, 89, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Capron, Va., to the late Ethel and Henry Earl Marks and was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Naomi “Gadget” Marks; a sister, Katherine Marks Whitehead; and four brothers, Henry Earl Marks, Jess Thomas Marks, Lon “Skinny” Marks, and Aubrey Pope Marks.

Ben was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from Hercules Chemical Plant in Franklin.

He enjoyed horses, camping and restoring many classic cars. An avid fisherman and hunter, he belonged to Indian Town Hunt Club, and was a past member of Capron Ruritan Club and the Courtland Masonic Lodge.

His favorite love was his family and friends.

A loving husband, devoted brother, loving father, granddaddy and great-granddaddy, Ben is survived by his daughter, Priscilla Marks Vick and husband, Melvin; son, Benjamin “Eddie” Edward Marks Jr. and wife, Wanda; grandchildren, Amy Wilkins and husband, Steve, Holly Mein and husband, Jimmy, John Trew, and Joshua “Josh” Adam Marks and wife, Jody; great-grandchildren, Brett and Blake Rutledge, and Katie and Clay Mein; sister-in-law, Judy Marks; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ben also had many loving and caring friends.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Capron UMC in Capron, Va., with the Rev. Steve Vornov and William Hart Gillette officiating. Burial will follow at Capron Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of Melvin and Priscilla Vick, 16221 Drake Road, Sedley, Va.
