Theft of new spare tire upsetting

To the Editor:

On the Saturday morning of March 17, I launched my boat from the Franklin City boat landing.

My wife and I fished for only three hours, from 9 a.m. to noon. When we returned to the boat landing, we discovered someone had stolen the spare tire and rim from my boat trailer.

This tire was bolted down to the trailer so the thief had to have tools and time to remove the rim and tire. The tire was a brand new Goodyear Marathon trailer tire mounted on an aluminum rim.

I believe it is a very sorry state of affairs for the City of Franklin when you cannot go fishing for such a short period of time without a thief getting your possessions (even after you’ve bolted them down).

I reported the theft to the Franklin police who stated they had ridden through the boat landing parking lot that morning. The police officer even remembered seeing my truck and trailer.

I wanted to tell what happened to me so other folks would know and be aware that even in a public boat landing like Franklin there is blatant theft.
