NEWSOMS—Shelba Jean Holt Gray, 73, passed away March 28, 2012.

Shelba was a native of Southampton County and was a daughter of the late Charles Lindsey and Grace Raiford Holt. She was predeceased by her siblings, Charles L. Holt Jr.; her twin sister, Charlotte H. Goodman, and Winston C. Holt.

Shelba was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church.

Affectionately known as “Mama Jean” to her extended family, Shelba was a loving wife, mother and grandmother that enjoyed helping others.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 30 years, Roy L. Gray Jr.; two sons, Kenneth W. Coggsdale of Portsmouth and Darryl V. Coggsdale of Virginia Beach; three stepchildren, R. Lee Gray III, Kathy Holt and David W. Gray; one brother, Douglas W. Holt and wife, Ruthie; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six nephews that loved her dearly; and a special friend, Mary Drake.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Barnes United Methodist Church with Rev. Darwin G. Edwards officiating.
