FHS soccer beats Brunswick for first time in five years

BRUNSWICK—Franklin soccer players gave Coach Brandon Ivey a “five-gallon water bath” after defeating Brunswick for the first time in five years on Wednesday.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better game,” Ivey said about the 3-0 non-conference win over host Brunswick.

The scored was 0-0 at the half. Senior Tony Bland scored two goals and sophomore Angel Padilla added one. Junior goalie Nathan Jones had 13 saves.

Junior Zach Hopkins, and seniors Kenton Hicks and Brandyn Shelley led the Franklin defense.

Ivey also commended junior varsity sophomores Kyle Smith, Issiah Rankin, Jason Nguyen and Bryce Shelley and freshman Adam Grant for their efforts on the varsity squad the last two games.

The Broncos improved to 3-1.
