Alvin B. Artis

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Alvin B. Artis of Washington, D.C. went home to be with the Lord on March 22, 2012.

He was born in Southampton County, Va., to the late Woodrow and Hattie Hamlin Artis.

Alvin was a former member of Union Hill United Church of Christ in Sedley, Va.

He was a graduate of Hayden High School and relocated to Washington, D.C.

He was a carpet installer and his favorite pastime was photography and auto mechanics.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Woodrow Jr., Larry J. and John E. Artis.

Left with many loving memories are his daughter, Tabatha L. Baker; brothers Willie L. Artis and wife, Ida, Lorenzo W. Artis and Curtis C. Artis; sisters, Hattie Moore and Lois Artis; grandchildren, Brandon Pearson, Javont’e Baker and Mykale Jones; great-grandchildren, Teyana Bowers, Chari Bynum and A’myiah; nieces, nephews and cousins; a special friend, Vanessa Walker; and many endearing friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Union Hill United Church of Christ, 16192 Union Hill Road, Sedley, Va., with the pastor, Reverend Roy Stokes delivering the message of comfort.

The committal and benediction will be in Butts Cemetery.

Viewing will be Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 224 S. Main St., Franklin, Va.
