COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy softball team beat Virginia Commonwealth Conference opponent Tidewater Academy 7-6 Tuesday to remain unbeaten.
Senior winning pitcher Chelsea Speight struck out six batters, walked two and gave up five earned runs.
The Lady Raiders are 5-0 and 3-0 in the conference.
“The opposing team was very good,” said SA Coach Jeb Bradshaw. “We couldn’t get away from them. Both teams just kept chipping away at each other.”
Lady Raider junior Whitley Smith went three-for-four while senior Skylar Goodman went one-for-three with a double.
SA plays Richmond Christian on Thursday.
