Franklin girls defeat Southampton 5-4

FRANKLIN—The Franklin girls’ tennis team defeated Southampton High School 5-4 during a non-conference match on Tuesday.

“In a replay of their first meeting, the match was exciting and very competitive,” said Franklin Coach Calvin Sing.

In singles play, the visiting Lady Indians dueled the Lady Broncos with both sides winning three game points each.

With the match score tied at 3-3, the Lady Broncos doubles teams quickly fell behind 3-2 in each of their sets. The No. 1 team of Asya Lee and Jeanetta Sessoms fought back and won 8-6. Southampton’s No. 2 duo of Kiana Tynes and Melia Hill defeated Tyreckka Hawks and Rebecca Gray 8-5.

After Southampton evened the match score at 4-4, the No. 3 doubles team of Maura Zurfluh and KaitlynTrotter fought hard and pulled out an 8-5 victory for the win.

In exhibition singles, Sylvana Bocook made her debut for the Lady Broncos and Liz Connor debuted in exhibition doubles.
