Greensville beats FHS in thriller

FRANKLIN—Greensville in a thrilling tennis match defeated the Franklin girls 5-4 on Thursday.
Greensville took a 4-2 game-point lead in singles play with Franklin’s Tyreckka Hawks and Rebecca Gray tallying the two markers for the Lady Broncos.
In doubles action, Franklin’s No. 3 pair of Maura Zurfluh and Kaitlyn Trotter won their set 8-1 to pull the Lady Broncos within one at 4-3. The No. 1 doubles pair of Asya Lee and Jeanetta Sessoms battled the Lady Eagles’ Michaela Wray and Lauren Grizzard.
Ahead 5-4, Lee and Sessoms won a service break to bring the set score to 6-4, and then took the next two games to win the set 8-4 and tie the match at 4-4.
All eyes then turned to Franklin’s No. 2 doubles pair of Hawks and Gray, who were dueling Kayla Hicks and Sierra Mitchell. With Greensville up 6-5, Hicks and Mitchell won a service break to make the score 7-5.
Gray and Hawks fought back to 7-6, but could not hold on and lost the set 8-6, giving Greensville the fifth and deciding game-point for the 5-4 victory.
The Lady Broncos are 1-3 on the season and at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, will host Southampton High.
