BOYKINS—A Courtland man has been arrested in a drive-by shooting that injured a 23-year-old man in Boykins on Sunday, the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Narcarlo Antonio Courtney, 21, of the 24000 block of Greenhead Road was charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and shooting from a vehicle. Courtney, who shot the unidentified victim in the leg, was taken to the county jail without bond.

Investigators believe the motive for the shooting was revenge.

“We know it was in retaliation, but we’re still ironing that out,” said Maj. Gene Drewery with the Sheriff’s Office.

Drewery said he believes the shooting may have stemmed from a fight that occurred elsewhere.

Investigators arrested Courtney on Wednesday after searching his home and seizing several items.

The victim was shot at 7 p.m. in a parking lot at Beaton Avenue and White Street next to Boykins Service Center.

Witnesses led investigators to Courtney, who at this time is expected to be the only one charged with the shooting, Drewery said.

The Sheriff’s Office initially reported that a white Buick, green Dodge Neon and a white vehicle with 30-day temporary tags were allegedly involved.

“We’re still shaking (out the details),” Drewery said. “I’m just really happy we made the arrest.”
