IVOR—The Ivor Fire Department recently held its first Gun Bash, which gave participants the chance to win a new gun or hunting equipment.

The fire department sold 500 $30 raffle tickets for 12 guns and a compound bow.

“We are very pleased with the results,” said Fire Department President Frank Britt. “It takes a lot of energy to put on an event like this, but it is worth it.”

Firefighter and Event Chairperson Bryan Grasser agreed.

“Our members worked long and hard putting this event together — selling tickets, contacting gun shop owners, setting up different tables for the on-site raffles and establishing the Family Fire Safety trailer,” Grasser said.

Door prizes were donated by Zimmerman’s Guns and Guitars, Hair Station, Fishing Hole, Crawford’s Small Engine Shop, Crop Production and Felts Packing. There also were monetary donations, a 50/50 raffle and a mystery raffle.

Winners had to pick up guns at the shops from where they were purchased. The grand prize was a Remington Versa-Max 12-guage shotgun.

Former Ivor Mayor Massey Joyner, who is a 50-plus year member of the fire department, drew the winning tickets for the gun raffle.

“We are very fortunate to have our community supporting us and we want everyone to know that we appreciate their interest,

Grasser said. “We always had good turnouts at the fish fries, barbecues and chicken dinners we put on to raise money.

“And they supported this event as well,” he continued. “In fact, we even had outside help — families spread the word to their relatives in other areas, and we sold tickets to people in several other states.”

One Ivor firefighter won a gun, and Brooks Cabell of Ivor won the bow.
