Hats off to Cuccinelli

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli did a pretty cool thing for a Franklin teen last week.

The state’s chief law enforcement officer, Cuccinelli acted on an invite from 14-year-old Duncan Trotter to visit J.P. King Middle School. Cuccinelli, who is running for governor in 2013, probably had a political motive for visiting, but still, to take the time to respond to Duncan’s request is sure to garner him some votes in Franklin.

Cuccinelli met with J.P. King Principal Angela Byrd-Wright and spoke to the student body, teachers and city leaders about how he became an attorney, and how a growing dissatisfaction with a state senator led to his own campaigns, and rise to the statewide office.

We also must praise Duncan for his efforts. How many eighth-graders do you know who would be interested in meeting their attorney general?

His parents, Chris and Dale Trotter, said their youngest of five children has always been interested in politics. Our guess is his parents have also been a positive influence on this young man, whom we may see in public office some day.
