COURTLAND—Marjorie P. West, 89, died Tuesday March 13, 2012, at University Place Retirement Community in West Lafayette, Indiana, where she lived for the past eight years.

Formally, Marjorie was a longtime resident of Suffolk, Va., and Courtland, Va., before moving to West Lafayette in 2004.

She was born September 5, 1922, in Wilson County, N.C., to the late Roland S. Peele and Carmen Peele Vick.

Marjorie graduated from Courtland High School and Keys Business School in Norfolk, Va.

She worked as a legal secretary and office manager and was active in the Business and Professional Women’s Club, serving as President.

She enjoyed gardening and travel.

She was a member of Liberty Springs Christian Church.

At University Place, she served on the Advisory Council, chaired the West Wing Assisted Living Council and enjoyed playing bingo.

Marjorie is survived by a son, Dr. Phillip E. Pope, and his wife, Judy, of West Lafayette, Ind.; a granddaughter, Chrys N. Pope of New Orleans, La.; two grandsons, Dr. P. Gregory Pope, and his wife, Kristen, and great-granddaughter Lillian of Austin, Texas, and Dr. Jason E. Pope and his wife, Emily, and great-granddaughter Vivienne of Napa, Calif; three sisters, Rana P. Crosby and her husband, Bryon, of Boyertown, Pa., Carmenette Jervis and her husband, James, of Richmond and Linda Poates of Courtland. Marjorie has two surviving aunts, Glennelle Bryant and her husband, Ret. Lt. Commander H. Franklin Bryant, of Virginia Beach and Ruby Price of Portsmouth.

Marjorie was preceded in death by three brothers, R.S. Peele, Charles Peele and Chapman Peele; and a sister, Nettie Lee Gurganus.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 16, at Wright Funeral Home in Franklin. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 17, at 11 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, with Rev. James W. Browder III officiating. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
