Ann Dillon Atkinson

FRANKLIN—Ann Dillon Atkinson, 89, passed away February 27, 2012, at Courtland Health Care.
She was born July 19, 1922, in Franklin to the late Frances Faulkner Dillon and William Woodfin Dillon. Following her parents’ deaths, her late aunt, Bessie Freeman Dillon, raised her.
She was a graduate of Franklin High School and attended Averett College in Virginia. Prior to being married, she worked in The Tidewater News office.
She was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.
Ann was predeceased by her husband, William Robert Atkinson Jr.; a son, John Marshall Atkinson; and a brother, William Woodfin Dillon.
She is survived by two sons, William Robert Atkinson III, (Faith), and Richard Dillon Atkinson (Sandy); and a daughter, Patricia Ann Cobb (Nelson).
Grandchildren include John Lynn Hinkle, William Woodfin Atkinson (Michelle), Richard Miller Atkinson (Ashley), Elizabeth James Atkinson, Carrie Elizabeth Fox (Jay) and Dillon Edward Blythe.
Great-grandchildren include John and Ashten Hinkle, Braden and Canen Atkinson, and Blakely and Elan Fox.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 1, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home followed by a 2 p.m. graveside service at Poplar Spring by the Reverend Brent Kimlick of the Franklin Baptist Church and the Reverend James H. Hyatt Jr. of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation of Va. 5101Cleveland St., Virginia Beach, Va., 23462.
