Junior varsity Lady Raiders advance to conference championship

The Southampton Academy junior varsity girls’ basketball team advanced to the Virginia Commonwealth Conference Championship game with a 26-24 overtime victory against Fuqua School.

The win means the Lady Raiders will play the winner of the semifinal match between No. 1 seed Amelia Academy and No. 4 seed Kenston Forest in the junior varsity VCC championship at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at Richard Bland College in Petersburg.

It will be the junior varsity’s third straight trip to the conference championship game. They’ve won the previous two.

The 11-2 Lady Raiders were led by Sarah Best with 10 points and Morgan Pope with seven.
