SOUTHERN PINES, N.C—Helen Jones Majette of Southern Pines, N.C., died February 16, 2012.

Born in Como, N.C., on July 11, 1925, she was the daughter of Annie Sue Winborne Majette and Jethro Barnes Majette.

She attended elementary school in Como and Murfreesboro and completed high school in Franklin, Va., in 1942.

She graduated from Duke University School of Nursing and held a bachelor’s degree in Public Health Nursing from UNC-CH, then obtained a MA from Columbia University in NYC.

Her nursing career spanned many types of nursing in many locations. Her positions included Asst. Director of Nursing at the then North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill; Asst. Professor with tenure at UNC-CH School of Nursing and Asst. Professor with tenure at UNCW School of Nursing in Wilmington, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Joseph Pretlow Majette and Jethro Barnes Majette Jr.; and her very special aunt and uncle, Helen and Bill Holland of Franklin, Va.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ann Majette of Southern Pines, and many nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held aboard ship off the coast of North Carolina where her ashes will be scattered when warm winds blow.
