COURTLAND—Eleanor W. Whitehead died February 12, 2012.

A native of Southampton County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Jordan Thomas and Virginia Vaughan Whitehead and the widow of Bradford Whitehead Sr.

She was predeceased by her sister, Lucy W. Davis; and brothers, Leslie V. and Thomas M. Whitehead.

She is survived by her son, Bradford Whitehead Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Marsha; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also remembered with much affection by her caregivers, Michael and Joyce Joyner of Newsoms, Va.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Hospice Group at Southampton Memorial Hospital for its knowledge, kindness and patience during Mrs. Whitehead’s last days.

Mrs. Whitehead was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church at the time of her death and a former member of its Mary White Cobb Circle. She was also a 60-year member emeritus of the Order of the Eastern Star.

The Rev. Brandon Robbins will hold a memorial service in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at 3 p.m. The family will receive visitors at Wright Funeral Home one hour before the memorial service.

Burial will be private in the family square in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the three churches that played an important part in Mrs. Whitehead’s life.
