Firefighters at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday were called to the scene of a woods fire on the 19000 block of Cary’s Bridge Road in Capron.

The fire spread to an abandoned structure, but no homes were impacted, said Southampton Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Capt. Gene Drewery.

The fire was put out at approximately 3 p.m., according to a statement. The cause of the fire has been ruled to be accidental.

Fire departments in Capron, Drewryville, Courtland, Boykins, Branchville, Newsoms and Sedley all responded to the fire as well as the Virginia Department of Forestry and Courtland Rescue.
