CHESTERFIELD—Tyshaun Lowe scored 24 points while grabbing 16 rebounds to lead Franklin to a 78-71 win over Chesterfield Community in a Tri-Rivers District game on Tuesday.

Freshman teammate Adam Grant added 23 points while dishing out five assists and snatching seven rebounds, while Deronte Holmes scored a career-high 19 points, of which 11 came in the first half.

The Broncos improved to 10-3 on the season and 6-1 in the district.

Franklin scored a quick seven points to lead the game early.

Chesterfield made a run to end the first quarter down by two.

Chesterfield outscored the Broncos by four points in the second quarter for a 28-26 halftime lead.

“We came out attacking in the first few minutes of the game, focusing on getting to the rim as opposed to shooting threes,” said Franklin Coach Danny Dillon. “It worked because we were clearly in the game at halftime.”

“Chesterfield has only lost a handful of home games in the past five years,” Dillon continued. “We knew to start the second half if we didn’t take it to another level, we would be just another home win for them.”

The Broncos put together a 28-point third quarter. Heading into the fourth, Franklin led 54-45. The Broncos hit 11-for-12 from the charity strip to seal the game.

“I like it,” Dillon said. “We came out with much more intensity in the second half, played very smart down the stretch and made them play our game. These Broncos continue to impress me. They are so unselfish and are just pulling for each other. That’s the ingredients of a good team.”

Chesterfield’s Alvin Johnson had 15 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Franklin will host Appomattox Regional Governor’s School at 6:30 p.m. today, Jan. 27. There will be no junior varsity game.
