SMITHFIELD—Ruth Alice Branche Duncan, 97, of Smithfield and a Southampton County native, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012.

A graveside service was held Monday in St. Luke’s Memorial Park.

Mrs. Duncan was retired from the Department of Commerce as a census representative.

Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, was in charge of arrangements.
