DENDRON—Martha Anderson Rollings, 82, of Dendron, retired assistant superintendent of Surry, passed away Jan. 22, 2012.

The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 25, at the Wakefield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Dendron United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Wakefield Cemetery.

She entered State Teachers College (now Longwood University) at age 14, graduated with honors at 18 and began her career in education, which lasted 45 years. She taught at Culpeper, Wakefield and Waverly high schools, and Surry Academy. She also served as assistant principal at Surry County High School.

She served as treasurer of Dendron United Methodist Church for more than 35 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Faye Rollings-Carter; and a brother, Dr. Powell Anderson of Dillwyn.
