Domestic violence topic of program

NEWSOMS—Thirteen members of Newsoms United Methodist Women and three guests heard a talk on domestic violence during the group’s recent meeting.

Vice President Edna Ree Porter led the meeting.

Gayle Lowdermilk of Southampton County Social Services introduced Genieve Shelter volunteers Vanessa Green and Jackie Sledge. They provided a phone number for domestic violence victims in need of help. The number is 757-925-4365.

Each member received a mini-flashlight for her key ring.

Dimes & Dollars for Blackstone totaled $14.75.

Members approved the 2012 budget, which is $5,151.

The Rev. Darwin Edwards gave the closing blessing.
