HOT SPRINGS—Representatives from the fair committee attended the conference from Jan. 6 -8 and won 13 communication awards for 17 marketing items entered.

First-place awards were received for the fair map, photographic essay, new age scrapbook created by Pat Hodge and a radio ad created by Eagle 97. Second-place awards were given for billboard design, website, advertising/merchandise and pageant book.

Third-place awards were given for best magazine article in Cooperative Living, media scrapbook, fair poster, fair theme and fair T-shirt design.

“The VAF conferences are instrumental in the growth of the Isle of Wight County Fair committee and staff,” said IOW Fair Coordinator Darlene Keyt. “With approximately 50 Virginia fairs represented at this event, it is an honor to be No. 2 in the state for mid-size fairs. We really thought the IOW Fair Committee would be bringing home first place this year and was informed that we only missed first place by one point.”

The 2012 Isle of Wight County Fair is scheduled for Sept. 13-16 at Heritage Park in Windsor.
