Grace Janette Phelps Clay

IVOR—Grace Janette Phelps Clay, 75, of Tucker Swamp Road, Ivor, passed away suddenly January 3, 2012.

A Native of Windsor, N.C., she was born to the late Paul Phelps and Elsie Byrd Phelps Morris.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Liverman.

Grace was an avid gardener specializing in exotic flowers.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, William I. Clay Sr.; daughters Lea Anne Williams and her husband, Charles of Lakeland, Fla., and Lynette Clay Hartmann and her husband, Philip of Lansdowne, Va.; stepson, William I. Clay Jr. and his wife, Sid of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two half sisters, Thelma Raskin and Louise Danials; and one half brother, Archie Phelps.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, January 8, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, with Pastor Ernest L. Trueblood officiating. Burial will be private with the family at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
