PETERSBURG—Franklin improved to 2-0 in the Tri-Rivers District and 5-2 overall after defeating Appomattox Regional Governor’s School 57-46 on Tuesday.
Franklin led its host 38-18 at halftime.
“We did what we wanted to do in the first half against ARGS, by pressing full court and three-quarter court,” said Franklin Coach Danny Dillon. “The boys were active and we got the ball out quickly and finished on the other end.”
ARGS gave the Broncos trouble in the second half and Franklin got into foul trouble. ARGS was down by 16 going into the fourth quarter.
“We missed a number of open looks and free throws down the stretch to really pull away from this team,” Dillon said. “I give ARGS credit for not giving up, but neither did our boys. Any district win is a big win and this was a big win tonight.”
Franklin’s Adam Grant led all scorers with 24 points; he also had six assists. Teammate Tyshawn Lowe made 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Mark Leach scored all of his 15 points for the losing team in the second half. Teammate Cameron Lanier and Khalil Powers added 11 each.
Franklin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, will host Surry.
