COURTLAND—Southampton Academy’s 55-42 victory Thursday night over Ridgecroft Academy gave the boys three wins on the year, surpassing the two wins from last year.

“This team is doing a fantastic job,” Coach David Gibbs said. “This year’s team is working extremely hard and is getting better every game.”

Tonee Hill scored 25 points and had 16 rebounds. Matt Rose had 12 points and eight rebounds in the second half.

Ridgecroft was up 26-20 at the half, but the Raiders battled back, even without Zach Best the team’s starting point guard, who was out with an injured foot.

“We didn’t shoot the ball well in the first half,” Gibbs said. “We played a really good second half.”

The win moves the Raiders to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference. Southampton Academy at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, will host Brunswick Academy.
