Time to go after delinquent taxpayers

To the Editor:

On the same day that I gave my pound of flesh to the city in the form of my personal property taxes, I received a letter from Dinah Babb, city treasurer, reminding me that I owe the city for two dog tags.

My suggestion to Mrs. Babb is that the Treasurer’s Office put on their big boy pants and collect the thousands and thousands of dollars owed by the deadbeats who, in some cases, have not paid their taxes since 2004.

There are five accounts on the delinquent tax list that, when totaled, come to over $45,000. At least two of those accounts belong to merchants doing business every day on Main Street and another does his business every day on Fourth Avenue. What is the problem Mrs. Babb?
